Hurghada with Kids

During our family trip around the world, we spend 7 days at Hurghada Long Beach Resort. After dealing with a wide variety of lodging during our first 6 months of travel, it was amazing! On our trip so far we have struggled with bugs of ALL kinds, being too hot AND too cold, lumpy beds, nasty pillows, no hot water, all sharing 1 tiny bathroom (sometimes with the rest of the floor), and questionable cleanliness. We were due for some luxury and relaxation! Hurghada exceedingly delivered on all fronts and has become one of our favorite stops from our entire trip. When you think of Egypt, you probably don’t have Hurghada in mind. It is definitely worth a stop with kids if you are looking for a relaxing week at the beach!

Getting to Hurghada

There are multiple ways to arrive in Hurghada. There is an airport with flights from Cairo, private transfer and UBER options, and GoBus routes. We chose GoBus. Read everything you need to know about booking and using GoBus as a tourist here.

Hurghada Long Beach Resort

We chose to stay at Hurghada Long Beach because it has a great location, is affordable, and is all-inclusive! They have family rooms with an incredible set-up: a king bed and full bathroom that is connected (but with a door you can close) to another bedroom with 2 twin beds and another full bathroom. For our family, this separation of space is a priority when traveling nonstop for 6 months! The rooms are clean, the beds and pillows extremely comfortable, and the rooms have both heat and air if needed.

The resort itself has an incredible amount of amenities:

  • In our room we received a daily fruit plate and pastry plate, with an ongoing supply of coffee, tea, and bottled water.
  • The buffet is open for all meals, but they have 5 speciality restaurants for dinner: all incredible. During a typical 1 week stay, the resort includes 3 specialty restaurants. But, it will be worth paying the small additional price to eat at all 5. They offer chinese, egyptian, greek, italian, and international to choose from.
  • A heated pool (it was a bit chilly at times during our stay in mid-January).
  • 5 water-slides. These were actually quite thrilling; it’s definitely worth having good slides for a trip to Hurghada with kids.
  • Activities: 24-hour gym, ping-pong, soccer, volleyball, outdoor work-out areas, swingsets, lounge chairs by all pools and the beach, on-site kite boarding school. We also booked a very reasonably priced camel and horse ride with Mohamad onsite. We went out into the desert and along the ocean.
  • Pampering: full service spa; Ashley got an hour massage for $25 plus tip.
  • Unlimited drinks: juices, soft drinks, hot drinks, and alcoholic drinks.

There are also a lot of 3rd party vendors that rent space throughout the resort. It is Egypt, and nothing has set prices. So, be aware that if you do enter a store or buy a tour or service, the pricing is always negotiable. Usually, this is an amicable process. If you aren’t comfortable with the person you are dealing with, simply walk away.

Snorkel Tour

Hurghada is a premier destination for snorkeling and diving. Our family planned for a full-day snorkel tour. We booked through a vendor at the resort. The trip included a stop at a small beach island, then 2 reef snorkel destinations. Because we traveled during January, it was cold. The water was cold, and the wind kept you cold out of the water. However, if you jumped in and started swimming, it was still amazing. If you are going to Hurghada with kids in January, you may want to consider a wetsuit rental. We spoke with Mohamad about tour options several times throughout our stay, and he was always so kind and helpful. You can book tours with him even if you aren’t staying at Long Beach and can contact him directly through WhatsApp. +2 01551713061

We found zero reason to leave the resort other than the snorkel tour. Apparently the downtown marina area is fun to walk around, but if you are traveling to Hurghada with kids, simply pick a resort like Long Beach. You won’t need to leave, won’t want to leave, and enjoy the pampering and activities!
