Massanutten Resort
Massanutten Resort in the mountains of Virginia caters to year-round family fun during all four seasons! Snow sports, adventure courses, restaurants, pools, indoor and outdoor waterparks, and golf courses are just a few of the countless things they offer their guests.
Details:
Massanutten remains a destination that our family has chosen to return to year after year mainly due to two reasons.
- We stay in a large, very nice two bedroom unit for incredibly cheap (like under $300 for the entire week). Although we are not personally huge fans of timeshares, you may be able to take advantage of similar deals if you have a friend or family member that already owns one (like Ashley’s family does). If this is the case, you can book an extra week (given to you in a dollar amount, not with points or weeks) at resorts all over the world that does not impact the owners in any way. You then pay an extra guest fee that allows you to go without the owners of $50-$70. Although we like to see and do NEW things when we travel for the most part, this is a great spot for our family to regularly return to, because it’s just about the cheapest vacation we take.
- Massanutten Resort is really more like a city within itself. The entire property is massive and has most everything you could ever want to do or need onsite. From their convenience stores to a full spa and everything in between, most visitors rarely need to leave the resort. Although most everything they offer is an additional cost, our weekly condo rate is so inexpensive that we have no problem budgeting for the extras. The specific activities that we have tried and enjoyed are included below.
Notes and Tips:
- The waterpark is VERY strict on their height requirement of 42” for the big slides and the surfing simulator.
- Snow tubing is discounted on Tuesdays.
- The timeshare presentation at Massanutten Resort is never required, but you will be asked at the beginning of your stay if you would like to participate in exchange for discounts. Your call!
- There are only 2 restaurants on site, but there’s a Food Lion grocery store 15 minutes away. This is Jon’s only trip to the grocery store each year, and it’s cheaper and our kids love eating all the junk he buys!
Gear:
- We already owned a Go-Pro style action camera, but got this reasonably priced accessory kit for this trip.
