COVID-19 Travel to Monaco

Can you travel to Monaco during COVID-19?  We did!  After spending a day in Monaco in September 2021, this is our top information to pass along:

  • We traveled by train from Cagnes-Sur-Mer (between Nice and Antibes) to Monaco.  We brought our passports and our vaccination cards but did not need to show either to enter Monaco.  After getting off the train, we simply walked out of the station like at any other stop.
  • Masks were required at all times, even walking around outdoors.  It was a little confusing based on the signs, but Jon observed police officers reminding people multiple times (Ashley being one of them) to keep their masks up.
    • To be fair to Ashley, our family was walking outside, completely by ourselves, and we were unaware masks were required outside when social distancing was in effect.  The officer stopped his motorcycle to remind her.
  • Plan to walk along the supercar dealerships by the Grimaldi Forum.
    • Jon’s definitive supercar rating, in order: Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Maserati, Porsche………..Bentley………..Toyota, Honda……….Rolls Royce.
    • Argue in the comments section if you want to show everyone how wrong you are.
    • We did tour the lobby of the Monte Carlo Casino.  It was open, free, and over 12 years old requires a pass sanitare: our paper CDC cards continued to work fine.  Our passports were also required as the form of ID.
    • Definitely plan to visit their aquarium, Musée Océanographique de Monaco.  It was awesome and a nice walk from the casino around Port Hercule.  Check out the highlights of our visit here.
    • Gazing at the port makes you realize how easy it is to become discontent with stuff.  To spin off the old John D. Rockefeller quote: “How big of a yacht is enough?  Just a little bit bigger.”
    • If a primary reason you want to visit Monaco is to see the inside of the Monte Carlo Casino, make sure to check out Jon’s hilarious post here.
    • There are hills and lots of walking, so plan your shoes appropriately.  We did not see any reason you would need to use public transportation to get anywhere: just enjoy the views while you walk!  Seek out several of the Formula 1 race hairpin turns (there is an amazing one in front of the Fairmont Hotel).
    • Returning from Monaco to France by train was the same in reverse: no border control for passports or COVID-19 screening.

For us, travel to Monaco during COVID-19 in September 2021 was basically normal.  Other than showing our CDC cards a couple times and wearing masks all day, everything was open.  If anything, everything was less crowded than expected, which made it a perfect time for us to visit!  We also have posts that detail our experience traveling during COVID-19 to Paris and Spain.
