Power Supply in Peru

Do you need an adaptor or a converter when traveling to Peru?

During our trip to Peru in May 2022 (read details about COVID requirements here), we had an incredible time touring Cusco, spending the night at Skylodge, and hiking the Inca Trail. Peru is amazing, and we consider it one of our all-time top destinations.

You do need to prepare for the electricity in Peru. It has a unique combination of American plugs with 110 volts but also has European-style plugs with 220 volts. For example, our first hotel in Lima only had “Type C” European plugs at 220 volts. This is what we most commonly found, but Peru also has “Type A” 220-volt plugs. However, our hotel in Cusco had clearly labeled outlets and included a standard American 110 voltage plug option.

As a quick reminder: if you are plugging in a device that can accept a range of voltage (cell phone, laptop, etc) all you will need is a universal plug adaptor.

However, if you are plugging in a device that requires American 110 voltage input (our power bank for example), it will explode without a step-down converter. Use this one.

We have used this power converter all around the world. It comes with both plug adaptors you may need for Peru, and guarantees that your voltage will always be okay. Its 4 USB charging ports and 2 American outlets give you plenty of options from a single wall outlet. We give more details on travel internationally with a voltage converter here.

Last note: you will want a power bank for Peru. While hiking the Inca Trail and staying in the Skylodge, we used ours to recharge our phones and the GoPro. This is the latest model of the one we still use.

It’s a little bit heavier but holds a really solid charge, provides fast charging from one of the ports, and is very effective at its low price point.

While preparing for an amazing trip to Peru, simply pack the 2 power supply travel items we never leave home without, and you’ll be good to go!
